Wednesday 25th & Thursday 26th March
I didn’t give an update yesterday because I didn’t think a blog post that said “spent the day lounging on the sofa fangirling” would make for very interesting reading… but since I’ve done the same again today that’s what you’re getting!
The difference is that I haven’t spent today on the sofa. I’ve been at my computer working on a new video edit. I admit it’s the same edit I was working on a fortnight ago; this one has been hard work and I don’t know why. I know it doesn’t help that I have far fewer clips to work with than I’ve had for previous edits and I spent a lot of time trying to decide whether I had enough clips to fill up a song. Having chosen the song, “Bring Me To Life” by Evanescence, I experimented with different ways of editing the music to shorten it, feeling that would make the edit more manageable.
After some playing around, I chose the shortened version I liked best and spent a couple of days laying out the clips, only to decide quite suddenly that I probably had enough clips for the full-length music so I had to scrap all but the very beginning of the video and start again!
I’ve done some good work on it today. I now have clips laid out to almost the full length of the song and I have an idea how I want to finish it. It’s a long way from finished though. I’m far from happy with the flow so the there’s a lot of revision and rearranging ahead, making sure I’ve included every clip I want to include and that every clip included earns its place. I hope that by tomorrow I might start to see it take shape into a video I can be proud of. We shall see. I still don’t know how I even make these videos! Every time I think “I can’t do this”, “I don’t know what I’m doing”, “this won’t work”,… and then every time I end up with a video that I love and I still have no idea how I made it!
I really am committed to staying home for the duration of the quarantine now. I have been from the beginning but in the first week I did look for opportunities to go out and get some steps in. My experiences with supermarkets have put paid to that though and I really don’t want to go out at all for anything if I can possibly help it.
Yesterday my friend brought me a pack of cheese. The British supermarket didn’t have any when I went on Monday but my friend managed to get some for me and called by with it on her way to the pharmacy. It felt very strange to greet my friend from several metres away and to just wave instead of hug. She had already wrapped the pack of cheese in tin foil inside a plastic bag, so she placed it down on the wall and I only moved to collect it after she started walking away to leave. I made her a bank transfer to pay for it from the app on my phone so that we weren’t handling cash. It was all very clinical. There’s no doubt that these are very strange times we’re living in.
One piece of good news today is that my favourite pizzeria is starting home deliveries tomorrow, so I know now what I’m going to have for dinner to kick off the weekend. I’ll be ready for pizza and a glass of wine after another day of video editing!
